Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems when he left the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.
Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.
Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "during the day".
The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.
England have already lost key quicks one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.
